SEA MOYA THE LONG RUN

Since forming back in 2015, German trio Sea Moya (Iven Niklas Jansen, David Schnitzler and Elias Foerster) have drawn listeners back in time and time again with their luscious beatwork, blippy electronica, spacious grooves, psychedelic synths and so much more belonging to their kaleidoscopic world of sound. A lot has changed for Sea Moya following the release of debut single ‘Do Things’ three years ago (as you would only expect), and now this three-piece are living in Montreal, Canada, working on their first full-length album. This week we’re celebrating the appearance of their second single of the year, ‘The Long Run’, which parallels the same lengthy, relaxed lines as kraut-beat precursor ‘New Past’. However, this newer single has a little more lo-fi energy reminiscent of Yellow Days or Los Porcos with polyrhythmic percussion, mumbling vocals and hazy production. It’s a sound that the band themselves have dubbed “space funk” and it was written and recorded up in the Italian Alps, possibly even inspired by their elevated altitude. Spanning the regular three and a half minutes, this track seems to last much longer than that thanks to the unrelenting, zoned-out but tuned-in, funkadelic soundwaves that seem to stretch on into the crisp Alpine skies and far beyond. - Hannah Thacker
